Kimberly Chow introduces a new line of books - comic books that illustrate the moments in an elf's life. Mute by name and by definition interacts with everyday happenings - responding to a digital alarm clock with an error in timing, a trip to a museum where his friend Sigale mouths off a bit to much for learning, an encounter with a television and a remote control that rules the progress of a day at home alone, a trip to a witches den where all is not so bad but that a return visit is warranted, and a very tender little trip to the beach where the value of sand dollars gains importance - at least for children.
The illustrations are clever and the concept is thoughtful while being entertaining. It is always nice to see books like this that have a heart. Grady Harp, May 15
